What happens to the polar ecosystems when sea ice begins to disappear?
Creativity and Innovation
Students demonstrate creative thinking, construct knowledge, and develop innovative products and processes using technology.

Create original works as a means of personal or group expression.

Essential Question:
How is losing sea ice similar to losing soil in the garden? What kind of gardens do polar bears, penguins and narwals need?
Construct an explanation that predicts patterns of interactions among organisms across multiple ecosystems.

  1. Watch the video and look for examples of a changing ecosystem. What variables in the video would you want to go back in time and try to change?
  2. In pairs  explore the site Why They Matter. Write down 3 reasons polar bears matter to planet earth.
  3. Using Graffio create a infograph representing a cause and effect relationship you have discovered about polar bears and sea ice.
  4. Share pair your original work. Describe how it might express your personal point of view .
  5. EXIT TICKET:  What is the relationship between global warming - sea ice - polar bears and extinction?
